Saveurs & Nature is a family business founded in 2001 in Nantes, near the Atlantic Ocean

The Mortreau family began to produce small quantities of organic chocolate to offer to clients as a nice treat in their restaurant.This restaurant called "Resto'Bio" was one of the first organic restaurants recognized in France. Employees of regional organic shops became regular clients and they loved the quality of chocolate so they asked if the chocolate could be sold to them! Production was increased and chocolate bars were first put onto retailers' shelves during the year 2001, and that is how the story began!

For nearly five years, the chocolate attracted more and more gourmets who convinced the family to sell the restaurant and dedicate ourselves to the production of chocolate. Saveurs & Nature moved to Vende (southern Loire region) to open their chocolate factory. Theyare now employing up to 42 people, all chocoholics! Theirpassion for chocolate leads to a respect tfor he raw materials they used every day, and they would only choose the highest quality and best flavours.

Now, with ten skilled chocolatiers they prepare for you the most delicious recipes, made with pure cocoa butter, no soy lecithin and no added fat.

The high concentration of cocoa butter and the fact of not using lecithin make the chocolate more intense: the melting releases all the preserved aromas of cocoa beans to delight your taste buds.

It is cocoa butter that gives chocolate all its sophistication, its character and its virtues! Saveurs et Nature's chocolate is made of minimum 43% cocoa butter- the legal minimum European rate for premium dark chocolate is 31% cocoa butter. It gives to our chocolate its unmistakeable taste and retains all its nutritional values for the great benefit of your taste buds and your health.


With organic chocolate, the work has to be more precise. On one hand, because they do not use lecithin they must be very careful with the tempering of the chocolate. With lecithin, the crystallization of the chocolate can vary from more or less 1 degree, or 1.5 degree. Without lecithin, it is up to 0.5 of a degree. On another hand, they never use flavours: they do their own juices, they cook the fruits just as needed.

All the raw materials used to make this chocolate are selected for their high quality. In the selection of the beans, it is important that they follow the traditional process of fermentation before drying and not a direct drying process. It is a traditional method that gives a subtle cocoa taste which differs according to the origins of the beans. Their choice is not to extract cocoa butter and keep it, to pass absolutely all the flavors of the cocoa to the bar.

ROASTING - The year2015 was marked by the integration of a new traditional craftsmanship skill to the company. They learnt the art of the roasting of cocoa beans to transform them into chocolate, and thus they integrated processing cacao beans: roasting, selecting, crushing, pre-grinding, conching process, tempering process. Mastering this expertise is different from most chocolate makers.

The discovery of every sort of cocoa beans will be a long journey. Organic cocoa is only 0.5% of the cocoa world market. Saveurs & Nature selected organic origins of premium quality to get different flavours from one continent to the other and from one island to the other. Like "terroirs" for wine or coffee, the nature of the soils and the countries of cocoa beans will reveal different flavours.


The French logo AB and the EU organic logo are on all our packagings and meet our commitments. All our products are certified by Bureau Veritas Certification France - FR BIO 10.
