Sprouting

Sprouting seeds as a source of nourishment has been around for thousands of years. There are records from China dating back over 5,000 years. It is said the idea was brought to Europe by Chinese immigrants. When a seed, bean, legume or grain is soaked it is changed chemically, the starches begin to turn to sugars and the seed releases from within it what it needs to germinate and grow into a plant. It is at this point they are considered to be very nutritious to eat.

Sprouts are said to alkalise the body, and are abundant in enzymes. Sprouting is very popular as it can provide fresh, living foods at any time of year and people with only a little space can still grow their own fresh food on a window sill!
