Liquorice Juice Stick
Brittle, hard sticks made out of pure liquorice juice.
Snap a piece off to suck - it has a strong liquorice flavour.
A popular way our customers use these sticks is to dissolve some in a hot drink - like blackcrrant juice, for example. This makes a warming, mildly sweet comforting drink.
Some of the juice dissolved into various herb teas softens the flavour, and may help to make a more palatable drink.
Can be used to make home remedies - an exasmple isthis traditional linseed & liquorice cough mixture:
Ingredients:
1 heaped tablespoon whole linseeds
Licorice Juice stick x 1
100g raisins
1litre water
Honey to taste
Place linseed, liquorice juice, raisins and water in a saucepan. Bring to the boil and simmer gently over a medium heat for 30 minutes. Strain the mixture though a sieve. Return to pan and boil steadily uncovered to reduce by half to 500 ml. Then add the honey and 1 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Suggested use: Add 2 dessertspoons in a cup of hot water and drink before bed or when needed for a troublesome cough. (Liquorice can raise the blood pressure, if you already have high blood pressure do not exceed dose and check with your doctor if concerned.)
