Tempeh is a nutritious and delicious food originating many genertions ago in Indonesia. In recent years it has grown in popularity in the UK.
Fermented soy is considered a great food choice for its easily available nutrients - being rich in B viamins, including B12 (due to the fermentation). It is also a good source of iron, mangnesium, potassium, zinc, phosphorus and calcium.
Original tempeh is gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. Its protein content is similar to that of chicken, and itcontains all the essential amino acids.
This tempeh is made by fermenting whole non-GM organic soya beans with the culture Rhizopus Oligosporus. Over time this may appear as dark markings throughout the tempeh - a bit like the veins in blue cheese.
It is a highly versatile food that can be cooked in many ways. Try it thinly sliced and fried in coconut oil or ghee and topped with tamari for breakfast. Mash it and mix with spices and form into balls and serve with a sauce.
