Wow, Mangalitza Pork Sure Does Taste Amazing!
These strange looking wooly pigs are a very old breed traditional in Central Europe. The meat is nothing like your usual pork. The pigs grow slowly and the meat is darker and marbled with wonderfully flavoursome fat. In fact they were made famous because of the quality of the lard they produce.
Mangalitza, when reared to true maturity and when fed correctly, produce two distinct types of fat, which are often referred to as "white gold". They are high in monounsaturates, full of omega 3, 9 & 12 and have a much better balance of omega 6. This fat has a very long shelf-life, due to its high antioxidant content and high levels of oleic acid. Mono-unsaturated fat consumption has been associated with decreased low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. This helps improve your memory and clear arteries.
These are very light, clean fats and do not leave a greasy feeling in the mouth.
We now supply a range of Mangalitza pork products in our shop. The pork steaks are out of this world and the bacon is so special. We also have lardo, which is a cured pork fat that you slice and cook like bacon. Utterly fantastic!
