Organic & Pasture Fed Meats

As more suppliers are realising, consumers are demanding to know the provenance of their foods, particularly meats, some are promoting that their animals are grass fed. At this time there is no fixed meaning for the term “grass fed”. An animal could have been fed a variety of feed (including GM crops if it is not an organic animal) alongside grazing on pasture. Even an organic animal is not guaranteed to be fed solely on pasture - they often use organic manufactured feeds.

We choose our meat suppliers carefully to ensure they only follow the highest standards of welfare. Cows on pastureThere is now a label certification “Pasture for Life” that you will begin to find on some of our meats.

Grass fed logoIn our freezer we have masses of great quality meat to choose from. We have sourced meat from farms where the animals range freely outside. The animals are able to eat a natural diet consisting of a variety of grasses, herbs and flowers from the fields and hedgerows. This is the healthiest diet for them as it naturally suits their digestivesystem.

The farms we use all follow organic farming principles and have done so for many, many years.

The nutritional value of true pasture fed meat is believed to be more suitable for our nutritional needs (ref: www.westonaprice.org).

“Red” meat has lost favour over recent years in some circles. There is widespread belief that this is as a result of intensive farming practices and the feeding of grains, soy and corn to ruminants altering the values of the meat produced.
